Background and Purpose

My name is Dana Lyons. I’m a singer and songwriter best known for my comedy tune "Cows With Guns."

I have the best job in the world. I travel all over the place singing at fundraising concerts for grassroots environmental and social justice groups. I get to hang out with the coolest people: people who dedicate their lives and work to protecting human and animal rights and our Earth’s precious habitat areas.

These cool people cook me amazing meals. They take me to their favorite beautiful places in their corners of the world. But what I find most inspiring is seeing the incredible projects these folks are working on. Everywhere. In every country. Every town. Every language. Projects that, when all pasted together, create the fabric of a new sustainable culture. For the whole world.

At many of my shows some 12-year-old, or 8-year-old, or 19-year-old, or 62-year-old comes up and asks me if I have any suggestions about what they can do to save our world. And the part that really bugs me, is that I actually do have a bunch of ideas for them, but I’ve never written them down.

So here I am, a guitar player turned blogger. Every school I sing in from now on will hear these stories, how youth (and their families) around the world are slowly making their schools and their communities sustainable. We have the power to create a beautiful future for our children and our children’s children. All we have to do is roll up our sleeves, organize ourselves, and get to work. And have a good time doing it.
